Egypt Prohibits Sale of Chinese Black Market Mobile Phones
July 02, 2010
National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Egypt recently passed a ban on blocking anonymous users and Chinese mobile phones with the same IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) as branded mobile phones, ChinaTechNews reported on June 28, 2010. The authority stated that these Chinese mobile phones, commonly known as black market phones have hindered the healthy development of Egyptian mobile phone market. Black market mobile phones imported from China first entered the Egyptian mobile phone market about six years ago, according to the same source, and it is estimated that currently around two million Chinese black market mobile phones can be found in Egypt. India government has approved similar regulations in late 2009 and forbidden the sale of mobile phones with no IMEI.
